Woke Panic: IMDb Artificially Boosts Disney's 'The Little Mermaid' User Score After Detecting 'Unusual User Voting'

I came across this crazy article about Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” user score getting artificially boosted by IMDb. Apparently, there was a “woke panic” about low ratings, so IMDb stepped in and detected unusual voting patterns, which led to a higher score. It’s pretty wild to think that user reviews can be manipulated like that.

The article explains that IMDb has a system in place to detect abnormal voting behavior, which they used in this case to identify “spam” or “manipulated” votes. Once these votes were removed, the score for “The Little Mermaid” increased significantly. But why did IMDb feel the need to do this? Apparently, there was a lot of controversy surrounding the casting of Halle Bailey as Ariel, which led to a lot of negative reviews before the movie had even been released.

It’s interesting to think about the power of user reviews and how they can influence people’s opinions of a particular movie or product. I remember when I was looking for a restaurant to try, I would always check the reviews on Yelp. But then I read that some businesses actually pay people to leave positive reviews, which made me question the authenticity of the ratings. It’s a bit disheartening to think that we can’t always trust what we read online.

Overall, I think this article sheds light on the importance of being critical of what we see on the internet. It’s always a good idea to look at multiple sources and do our own research before making any decisions based on user reviews or ratings.
