So, check this out! I was reading this article called “WNBA Coach Shocked that Crowd Didn’t Show for Brittney Griner’s Return” and it blew my mind. Basically, Brittney Griner is a professional basketball player and when her team played at home after she’d been out injured, only 2,500 fans showed up—the smallest crowd of the season!
The coach was totally taken aback, especially since Griner is such an amazing player and incredibly popular. In fact, she’s won awards for her talent and has even been on the cover of ESPN Magazine.
It’s just crazy to me that Griner’s return wasn’t a bigger deal for fans. I’m not even really into basketball, but I know how important it is to show up for big events like this—especially when an athlete like Griner has been out for a while. Maybe people just didn’t realize she was back on the court? Or maybe it’s because it was a weekday game? (I know I struggle to make it to anything during the week!)
Either way, I think it’s important to support women’s sports—both by showing up to watch live games and by following the leagues and players online. Women’s sports are just as exciting as men’s, and we should be doing everything we can to show our appreciation and boost these amazing athletes to the top.
So, there you have it—Brittney Griner is awesome, and everyone should be showing up to cheer her on!
