I read this interesting article about the White House getting called out for violating the US Flag Code during Pride Month. Apparently, they had a bunch of pride flags displayed alongside the American flag on the same pole, which goes against the rules.
What I found even more interesting was that this isn’t the first time the White House has been accused of this. They did the same thing during Barack Obama’s tenure, and even he received criticism for it. It seems like they just can’t get it right when it comes to flag etiquette.
As someone who grew up in a military family, I remember how seriously my dad took the rules around displaying the American flag. We had to make sure it was always lit up at night and never flown in bad weather. I can imagine there are a lot of people, especially veterans, who would take issue with the White House not following protocol.
Overall, I think this article raises an important point about showing respect for our national symbol. Plus, it’s a reminder that even the White House is not above the law (or the Flag Code, in this case).
