I just read this crazy article about Daniel Ellsberg, the guy who leaked the Pentagon Papers during the Vietnam War. It turns out that he passed away at the age of 92. Basically, Ellsberg was an activist who disagreed with the war effort, and he leaked these top secret documents to show the American public the truth about what was going on. The papers revealed that the government had lied to the public about the war and that the U.S. had secretly expanded it into neighboring countries. When the government learned about the leak, they tried to discredit Ellsberg and even charged him with espionage. But he fought back in court and eventually won the case.
I remember learning about the Pentagon Papers in school, and how they changed the public’s view of the war. It’s amazing to think how much power one person can have in shedding light on an important issue. Ellsberg really put himself on the line for what he believed in, and it’s sad to see him go. But his legacy lives on, and his actions inspired others to speak up about government secrets. It makes me wonder what other information is being hidden from us that we don’t know about.
