I just read an article that caught my attention - Tucker Carlson’s Twitter show has just hit over 100 million views. If you’re not sure who he is, he’s a well-known political commentator and personality in the US.
Essentially, Carlson started a nightly show on Twitter back in October 2020 and it’s been gaining a lot of traction since then. The show, called Tucker Carlson Today, airs live at 7 p.m. EST on weekdays and covers a variety of political topics and current events. The fact that it’s only on Twitter shows how social media platforms are becoming more and more influential in shaping public discourse.
It’s interesting to see the shift towards more online-driven media consumption, which has been accelerated by the pandemic too. In my opinion, it’s a good thing that people are able to access news and information more easily, but there’s also a downside to this - namely, the proliferation of misinformation and echo chambers.
Overall, I think it’s important to be aware of the impact social media and online media have on us, and to be critical consumers of information. With the rise of new media forms, it’s becoming increasingly important to think about how we interact with and consume media, and what potential biases or agendas might be at play.
