Riley Gaines 'ambushed and physically hit' after Saving Women's Sports speech at San Francisco State

So, I just read this article about Riley Gaines, a female athlete who gave a speech in support of women’s sports at San Francisco State. Apparently, after she finished speaking, some dude straight up ambushed her and hit her! What the heck?

Basically, Riley was there to talk about how important it is to support women’s sports and how unfair it is when they’re not given the same opportunities as men. Which is totally true! But this guy, who clearly doesn’t get it, decided to go physical instead of having a conversation like a normal person. Just…why?

It’s really messed up that someone would feel the need to use violence like this. It’s not just about Riley getting hurt, it’s about the fact that she was targeted for standing up for what’s right. This kind of thing happens way too often, especially with women who are trying to make a difference.

Personally, I’ve never been physically attacked for my beliefs, but I have definitely experienced people trying to shut me down or undermine what I’m saying, just because they don’t agree or don’t want to hear it. It’s frustrating and kind of scary, because you never know when someone’s going to take it to the next level.

Anyway, the whole situation is just nasty and unnecessary. It’s important to support women’s sports and the people who advocate for them, and to call out violence and aggression when we see it. Hopefully, Riley is doing okay and this incident makes people realize that this kind of behavior is NOT okay.
