So, I was just reading this crazy article about a guy in New York City who apparently heroically saved someone’s life on the subway by using a chokehold on them! I know, sounds nuts, but hear me out.
Basically, this guy named Daniel Penny was on the subway when he saw another passenger who was apparently harassing people. When the other passenger stepped towards Daniel, he used a chokehold on him and held him down until the cops arrived. Well, turns out the other guy died from the chokehold, but eyewitnesses are saying that Daniel acted in self-defense and that he did what he had to do to prevent the other passenger from hurting anyone else.
As someone who’s been on a subway in New York City before, this story definitely caught my attention. We’ve all encountered some weird or sketchy situations on public transit before, so I can only imagine what it must have been like for Daniel to be there in the moment trying to protect himself and others.
Overall, I think this story is important because it raises some really interesting questions about what “self-defense” really means and whether or not it’s ever appropriate to use force to protect others. It’s definitely a complicated issue, but Daniel’s story shows us that sometimes there’s no easy answer.
