Pride flag may soon be banned from all city property in a Detroit-area city after unanimous vote by city council: Everyone 'is already represented by' the American flag

I found this interesting article about a city in Detroit that wants to ban the Pride flag from all city property. Apparently, the city council unanimously voted to get rid of it because “everyone is already represented by the American flag.” Personally, I think this is ridiculous. Why can’t both flags be displayed? It’s important to show support for the LGBTQ+ community, especially in areas where they may not feel accepted.

According to the article, this city isn’t the only one that’s trying to ban Pride flags. There have been similar bans proposed across the country, which is pretty disheartening. The fact that some people think a symbol of love, equality, and acceptance is somehow offensive just shows how far we still have to go as a society.

As someone who has friends and family members in the LGBTQ+ community, I know how important it is to feel visible and supported. Seeing a Pride flag can make all the difference in the world. It’s a small gesture, but it can mean so much.

Overall, I think it’s important to stand up for what’s right and fight against discrimination in all its forms. Whether it’s allowing Pride flags to be displayed or supporting policies that promote equality, we all have a role to play in creating a more just and accepting society.
