So, I came across this article about a man named Suleman Dawood who paid $105,000 to go on a submarine expedition to see the Titanic. Sounds like a pretty cool adventure, right? But get this—Dawood was apparently “terrified” the entire time. According to his aunt, he was freaking out and begging for the expedition to end early.
Basically, Dawood had signed up to join the crew of the OceanGate, a submarine that would take him down to see the famous shipwreck. But despite being a seasoned traveler and adventurer, the experience proved to be too much for him. He reportedly said that he felt trapped and claustrophobic in the submarine, and that he was terrified of the icy waters surrounding him.
Now, personally, I think it takes a lot of guts to sign up for something like that in the first place. I mean, I’ve gone scuba diving before and even that was nerve-wracking (but amazing!). But on a more serious note, this article raises some important questions about the safety of these kinds of expeditions. I’m sure the OceanGate team takes every precaution necessary, but incidents like this make me wonder if maybe these kinds of trips aren’t for everyone.
Overall, though, I’m glad Dawood made it through okay. Even though he was scared out of his mind for most of it, at least he can say he had a once-in-a-lifetime experience, right?
