NY Hotels Boot Homeless Veterans to Shelter Released Migrants

As cities across the country continue to struggle with housing insecurity and homelessness, a troubling trend is emerging in New York City’s hotel rooms. Some hotels, like the Fairfield Inn and Suites in Queens, have been booting homeless veterans out of their rooms in order to make space for newly-released migrants who need temporary shelter.

According to sources, the federal government has been sending migrants to hotels across the city as they await travel arrangements to their final destinations. While the migrants are accommodated in full-service hotels with daily meals and access to medical services, the same cannot be said for the homeless veterans who have been living in these hotels for months.

This practice has sparked outrage from veterans advocacy groups who argue that veterans who served their country should not be displaced in favor of migrants who have just crossed the border. Homelessness is already a severe issue in the veteran community, with nearly 40,000 veterans experiencing homelessness on any given night.

While the hotels have not commented on the situation, some have emphasized that they are simply following orders from the government. However, the situation highlights the urgent need for affordable housing solutions and support for those who have served their country and are now struggling to make ends meet.
