Nick Gilbert, son of Cavaliers team owner Dan Gilbert, dead at 26

So, there’s some sad news coming out of Cleveland today. Apparently, Nick Gilbert, the son of Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert, has passed away at just 26 years old. It’s always tough to hear about someone passing away so young, especially when they’re part of such a close-knit community like the NBA.

From what I gather, Nick was pretty well-known in Cleveland circles for his colorful personality and love of basketball. He even became something of a good luck charm for the Cavs during the 2011 and 2013 NBA drafts, when he represented the team on stage and helped them snag some pretty high draft picks. So it goes without saying that his loss is being felt pretty deeply by the entire organization.

Now, I don’t know the Gilbert family personally, but I can only imagine how difficult this must be for them. Losing a child is never easy, no matter how old they are. And for Dan Gilbert, who has already had some health scares in the past, this must be especially devastating.

But even beyond the personal tragedy of Nick’s passing, it’s worth noting that this news will likely resonate with a lot of basketball fans. The NBA is a pretty close-knit community, and the Gilbert family has been a big part of the league for a while now. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we see some tributes to Nick in the coming days and weeks.

All in all, it’s just a really sad situation. My heart goes out to everyone who knew Nick personally, as well as anyone who’s been touched by his story. Rest in peace, Nick.
