So, there was this article I read about a store owner in New Mexico who decided to sleep inside his own shop to prevent any potential break-ins. Turns out, he made the right call because a burglar tried to tunnel through a wall to get in, and the owner ended up shooting and killing the intruder. Wild, right?
Basically, the guy had been paranoid about his store being targeted, so he had set up a cot and was sleeping there every night. And sure enough, someone tried to break in. The owner had a gun and acted in self-defense, but of course, there’s still a lot of controversy around whether or not he should have used lethal force.
Personally, I think it’s nuts that anyone should feel like they have to risk their own safety like that just to protect their business. But I also get why he did it, especially if he had already experienced theft or other crimes in the past. It’s really sad that we live in a world where people have to resort to these extreme measures just to protect what’s rightfully theirs.
At the end of the day, though, I don’t think anyone can argue that this situation raises a lot of important questions about gun control, self-defense, and the ways in which we can protect ourselves and our property. It’s definitely a thought-provoking read, even if it is a little depressing.
