So, have you heard about the Minnesota AG Keith Ellison’s warning to Target about their “obligations” to the LGBTQ community? To be honest, I was quite surprised when I stumbled upon it. Basically, Ellison is calling out Target for not doing enough to support the LGBTQ community, despite the fact that the company has been considered to be relatively LGBTQ-friendly for years.
According to Ellison, Target needs to step up their game and start actively working to support the LGBTQ community in a more visible and meaningful way. He specifically mentions that Target should work on diversifying their leadership, improving their hiring practices for LGBTQ individuals, and making sure they support LGBTQ rights and causes both publicly and behind the scenes.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’ve always thought of Target as a pretty progressive and inclusive company. But maybe that’s just because I live in a pretty liberal area. I do remember though, when they first started selling Pride merchandise a few years back, feeling really happy that such a big company was showing their support for the LGBTQ community.
Overall, I think this is an important topic because it highlights the fact that even companies that are generally considered to be progressive and inclusive can still do more to support marginalized communities. It’s a reminder that we should always be pushing for progress and positive change, even if things seem to be going relatively well.
