FBI documents associate internet slang like 'based' and 'red pill' with 'extremism'

So, have you heard about the recent FBI documents associating internet slang with extremism? I read this article and it blew my mind. Apparently, words like ‘based’ and ‘red pill’ are now being linked to dangerous groups and ideologies.

Basically, the FBI released some documents stating that certain terms used online are being used by extremist groups. They’re not necessarily saying that using slang makes you an extremist, but they’re looking at the context and frequency of these words being used. For example, ‘based’ has been used in the past to glorify white supremacists and ‘red pill’ is associated with the men’s rights movement and anti-feminism.

I think it’s crazy how language can change and be re-appropriated like this. I remember when ‘based’ just meant something was cool or admirable. It’s kind of scary to think that now it could be linked to harmful beliefs.

But at the same time, it’s important to be aware of these connections and watch out for them online. We need to be mindful of our language and how it can be misinterpreted or used to spread harmful messages. It’s a reminder to be critical of the things we see and hear online and not take everything at face value.

So, what do you think about all of this? Have you heard any other slang terms being associated with extremism?
