So I read this wild article about an elementary school using Planned Parenthood sex ed materials. Can you believe they were showing kids puberty blockers and art featuring pubic hair? Crazy stuff.
Basically, this elementary school in California included Planned Parenthood materials in their sex ed curriculum. The materials cover topics like puberty, anatomy, consent, and gender identity. But here’s where things get interesting: the puberty section includes information about puberty blockers, which are drugs that temporarily delay puberty, and there’s even some art featuring pubic hair.
Now, I’m all for comprehensive sex ed, but I do think that showing these kinds of materials to young kids might be a bit too much. I remember during my own sex ed classes in middle school, we didn’t learn about any of this stuff until we were much older. It makes me wonder if the school district really thought it through before using these materials.
Overall, I think it’s important to have open and honest conversations with kids about their bodies and sexuality. But we need to make sure we’re doing it in a way that’s age appropriate and doesn’t overwhelm kids with too much information too soon.
What do you think? Is this elementary school going too far with their sex ed curriculum, or do you think it’s important to start teaching kids about these topics early on?
