Disney lost nearly $900 million at box office last 8 movies

Disney, the world’s largest entertainment company is facing a significant loss in their film division of $877 million over their last eight films. The company has been struggling to attract an audience for their latest releases including iconic franchises like ‘Star Wars’ and ‘Frozen 2’.

The latest ‘Star Wars’ film, ‘The Rise of Skywalker’, which concluded the Skywalker saga in 2019, had disappointing box office numbers, making only $1.07 billion, the lowest in the series since the prequel trilogy. Similarly, ‘Frozen 2’ only grossed $1.4 billion in 2019, which is a substantial decline from the original ‘Frozen’ movie, which made over $1.2 billion in 2013 and 2014.

Disney’s challenge lies in convincing audiences to continue going to movie theaters when streaming services have been on the rise. The pandemic has also hit Disney hard as theaters remained closed, delaying the release of major films like Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’.

Moreover, the rising competition from streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime also has been a challenging prospect for Disney, as more people are shifting to streaming platforms rather than opting for movie theater experiences.

As one of the most influential entertainment companies in the world, Disney’s loss at the box office has wide implications for the film industry as a whole. It highlights the changing nature of audience tastes and the need for more diverse content that will appeal to all age and demographic groups.

In conclusion, while Disney has been facing a tough time at the box office, they have a great opportunity to adapt and overcome the industry’s challenges by producing diverse and innovative content that can stand up to the competition of the streaming giants.
