So I just read this wild article about Dave Chappelle inviting a SNL comic who got cancelled on stage and basically redeeming him in front of everybody. It was so cool! Apparently, the SNL comic, Michael Che, had made some insensitive comments on Instagram and got a lot of backlash for it, so he was feeling pretty low. But then Dave Chappelle brought him on stage during one of his shows and gave him a pep talk that literally had the whole crowd cheering.
From what I gathered, Dave told Michael that comedians are supposed to push boundaries and make people uncomfortable, but they also have to know how to take a hit. He encouraged him to keep doing what he’s doing, but to also be accountable for his mistakes and learn from them. And then he made a joke about how Michael is too young to be canceling himself already, which got a huge laugh.
I love stories like this because they show that even in the cutthroat world of comedy, there’s room for compassion and second chances. Plus, it’s always cool to see successful people using their platform to uplift others. I think it’s important to remember that we’re all human and we all make mistakes, but the way we handle those mistakes is what sets us apart.
