So I came across this crazy article about the commencement speaker at CUNY Law who claimed that laws are essentially promoting white supremacy. My jaw hit the floor when I first read that! The speaker also went on an attack against police and military, calling them fascists.
Basically, this guy was a civil rights lawyer and activist who claimed that laws are inherently biased towards white people. He argued that the legal system was created to keep minorities oppressed and that the police and military are tools of white supremacy.
Now, I’m not a legal expert or anything, but this just sounds like a bunch of nonsense to me. I get that there are issues with systemic racism and bias in the justice system, but to claim that all laws are promoting white supremacy is a pretty big stretch.
The article also talks about how some people at the ceremony were upset by the speaker’s remarks and walked out. I can’t even imagine what it must have been like to be there and witness that.
All in all, it’s a pretty controversial topic. I think it’s important to recognize that there are legitimate issues with racial bias and inequality in our legal system, but making sweeping claims like this probably isn’t the best way to go about addressing them. It’s definitely something that needs to be discussed and examined further, though.
