Cam Newton says his dreadlocks are a reason he is not on an NFL roster

Cam Newton, the former quarterback for the Carolina Panthers, believes that his dreadlocks may be preventing him from finding a new team in the NFL. In a recent interview with his former teammate, Brandon Marshall, Newton said that “they’re not ready for a dreadlock quarterback.” According to Newton, he has received interest from several teams, but has yet to sign with one. Newton went on to say that, “For me in particular, knowing that I want to look good, feel good, play good – a lot of it has to do with perception.”

While it is impossible to determine the extent to which Newton’s hair may impact his job prospects in the NFL, discrimination based on appearance is not a new issue in the world of sports. Major League Baseball, for example, has had a long-standing policy against players having facial hair. Similarly, some employers in corporate America have dress codes that require employees to adhere to certain grooming standards.

It is important to recognize that individuals should not be judged or discriminated against based on their appearance. In the case of Cam Newton, his dreadlocks should have no bearing on his ability to play football. It is up to NFL teams to evaluate him based on his skills as a player and his ability to contribute to a team. It is crucial that organizations and institutions acknowledge and eliminate any form of discrimination or prejudice – whether it be in sports or the workplace.

Overall, Cam Newton’s comments shed light on the issue of appearance-based discrimination. While it is unfortunate that he may be facing this type of prejudice, it is vital that we continue to promote diversity and inclusivity in all areas of life. Talent should be the sole determining factor in any job, and individuals should not be judged based on things like their hair, clothing, or skin color. By recognizing and addressing these types of biases, we can create a more equitable society for everyone.
