Brittney Griner: The National Anthem Just 'Hit Different' This Time

Yo! I read this cool article about Brittney Griner and her thoughts on the national anthem. Basically, she said that it just “hit different” for her this time around. And I totally get where she’s coming from.

The article talks about how Griner has been taking a knee during the national anthem for years as a form of peaceful protest against social injustice. But with everything that’s been happening lately, like the Black Lives Matter movement and the protests following George Floyd’s death, Griner was really feeling the weight of the moment during a recent game.

She said that the lyrics about “the land of the free” and “the home of the brave” really hit home for her, and she got fairly emotional during the singing. I think it’s really powerful to see someone as talented and accomplished as Brittney Griner using her platform to raise awareness about important issues.

Personally, I’ve always found the national anthem to be a bit of a weird tradition. Like, we’re just standing there and singing for several minutes before a sporting event? But hearing about Griner’s experience has definitely made me appreciate the symbolism and significance of the anthem a little more.

Overall, I think it’s important to recognize that things like the national anthem and sports can be more than just entertainment or tradition. They can be opportunities for athletes and fans alike to express themselves and stand up for what they believe in. And I definitely have a new level of respect for Brittney Griner after reading this article.
