So, I just read this article about homeless veterans being kicked out of hotels to make room for migrants and it’s got me feeling pretty heated. Apparently, the Biden administration and New York officials are getting slammed for this decision, and I can completely understand why. It’s a total slap in the face to our veterans who have served our country and deserve better treatment.
Basically, what happened was that homeless veterans in New York were temporarily placed in hotels during the pandemic. But then, the federal government decided to use those same hotels to house migrant families crossing the border. So, the veterans were told they had to leave to make room for the migrants. It’s just outrageous to me that we would prioritize non-citizens over the people who have risked their lives for our country.
Personally, I have a few family members who have served in the military, and the idea of them being treated this way is really upsetting to me. I think it’s important that we honor and support our veterans, and this situation is just highlighting how much work we still have to do.
Overall, I think this article serves as a reminder that we need to be more conscientious and thoughtful about how we treat our veterans. They deserve better than to be kicked out of their temporary homes to make way for other people. It’s a disappointing situation, but I hope it brings more attention to the issue and encourages us to do better in the future.
