So, I just read this article about a pretty ridiculous accident involving an Amish woman and her horse-drawn buggy. Apparently, they were rear-ended by a semi-truck and unfortunately, both the woman and her horse were killed. It’s pretty awful, I know.
According to the police, accidents like this aren’t actually all that uncommon. Apparently, there’s a lot of traffic on the roads where the Amish live, and drivers don’t always see the buggies until it’s too late. Plus, the buggies don’t have any kind of warning lights or anything, so it can be hard to spot them in the dark.
As someone who grew up in a small town with a lot of Amish people around, this kind of thing honestly doesn’t surprise me. I mean, I never saw anything this bad happen, but I definitely remember having to be extra careful when driving around the Amish areas. Those buggies are slow-moving and sometimes hard to see, so you really have to pay attention.
Overall, I think this article is a good reminder that we all need to be careful when we’re out on the roads, whether we’re driving a car or riding in a horse-drawn buggy. It’s easy to get complacent and assume that everyone else is paying attention, too, but that’s not always the case. So let’s all drive safe out there, okay?
