132 Dems vote against bill cracking down on fentanyl, cite ‘inequities’ in criminal justice system

So, I read this article about how 132 Dems voted against a bill that would have cracked down on fentanyl. And get this, they cited “inequities” in the criminal justice system as the reason why.

Basically, the bill would have increased penalties for those caught with fentanyl, a super dangerous and deadly drug that’s been killing people left and right. But apparently, some Democrats don’t think that’s fair because they believe it would disproportionately affect people of color and low-income communities.

Now, I’m all for criminal justice reform and addressing the inequalities in our system, but come on, guys. We’re talking about a drug that’s killing people. And it’s not like it’s only affecting one particular group of people. Fentanyl is a problem that affects everyone, regardless of race or income.

What’s even more frustrating is that this bill had bipartisan support, so it’s not like it was some crazy right-wing agenda. And yet, these 132 Dems still voted against it.

Look, I get it. The criminal justice system is flawed in many ways and we need to work to fix it. But using that as an excuse to not crack down on a drug that’s causing so much harm just doesn’t make sense to me.

In conclusion, it’s important to keep in mind the bigger picture when it comes to issues like this. Yes, we need to address the problems in our criminal justice system, but we also need to take action to address the immediate issues at hand. And in this case, that means cracking down on fentanyl.
