So, I just read this crazy article about a shooting that happened at a Juneteenth celebration in a Chicago suburb. Basically, one person died and 20 others got shot!
From what I gathered, there was a gathering in a park to celebrate Juneteenth, which is a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the US. Everything was going well until some unknown gunman(s) opened fire on the crowd, causing mass chaos and confusion.
Police are still investigating the incident, but have not yet made any arrests. The victims were mostly in their 20s and 30s, and fortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening for the remaining 20 people.
As a black person, this hits pretty close to home for me. It’s frustrating that in 2021, we are still dealing with senseless violence and racism. It’s especially disheartening when someone tries to ruin a celebration that is meant to recognize and honor the struggles and accomplishments of black people.
Overall, this article highlights the ongoing problem of gun violence in America, and the need for accountability and action from our leaders. We need to do better to create safer communities and protect our citizens, especially those who are most vulnerable.
